Don't be like the rest of them darling...
Last week I was spending a little time connecting to some of my favorite #girlbosses in Facebook groups and this topic came up! It felt too on point and powerful not to share!
What makes you stand out? What makes you different? Why should your customer/client choose you over anyone else?
Could it be your attention to detail? Experience you create for your customers? Variety or type of products you offer? exclusivity?
From my experience you have to believe in your product/service so fiercely there's no question about what sets you apart. If you aren't passionate about the fact you bring more to the table than your competitors then why on earth would your customers choose you over them?
When I first started my photography biz I knew I wasn't the best photog around. But I KNEW-- passionately-- that I was better than my competitors because of the experience I created for my clients! Not only did I really take my time to get to know them, but I paid extra time and attention to the little details likecoffee date consultations, tricks and treats to keep their kids engaged, lots of fun and kisses shots to keep their husbands in a good mood, handwritten thank you notes, under promised and over delivered on timing and amount of images, and came to their homes with cupcakes and projector in hand to create a "family movie" type experience in viewing and ordering their photos, walked through their home to help them create personalized gallery sets with their new portraits, and followed up with a killer thank you note. When it came time to book again, or a friend asked who they recommended-- there was no question, I was the one!
As I made the switch to my current web design and strategy coaching biz I made it a point to get really crystal clear about who my ideal client is and where I could add that special attention to detail and make her experience with me stand above what she could could get anywhere else! I get to know her, speak her language, understand her struggles, anticipate and meet her needs, help her create custom systems that play to HER strengths and passions so that she can work smarter not harder, take her unique style & make it come to life with killer branding, graphic, & webdesign, spoil her with extra little goodies and handwritten love notes & always love, empower & support her! [And because of this my business has thrived in ways I could only have dreamed of, and over 50% of my new clients are from referrals!]
So back to my original question --
